Audio CD Mastering

Having worked in the music industry since 1991, I've worked my way through from MIDI programming to live concerts, to studio engineer, until I found my place as a mastering engineer.  The art of audio mastering is more than just setting up a track list and normalizing the tracks. It is taking that music and moving it to the next level.

When you send us your album for mastering keep the following in mind:

• Make sure your peaks are hitting no higher than -2db (prefer -5db) below 0db.

Don't worry about your music not being loud enough. The volume will be brought to full

  levels in  the mastering process.

• Try to avoid using any compression on the final mixes you send us for mastering.

You can't undo compression and distortion. If there is too much compression on your

pre-mastered final mix then there is very little the mastering engineer can do to

   reverse it.

• Keep your mixes at the highest resolution possible. In other words if you recorded

your session at 24bit, 96Khz then try to keep your mix at 24bit, 96Khz.

• Finally, make sure the source material is correctly labelled with the current track

listing,  and the new track listing supplied.
